Remembering the old free speech wall at State U and how quiet it is now
Back in 2015, the big brick wall by the library was always covered in sticky notes and chalk, people arguing about everything. I walked by it yesterday and there was just one faded poster for a club bake sale. The admin moved all 'disruptive' speech to a tiny fenced area last fall after a protest about a speaker got loud. It feels like the whole debate just got packed up and put away. Has your campus seen something similar, where they just sort of shut the whole conversation down?

Man, that's a real shame. My old community college had a similar board they just stopped refilling with paper, so it sat empty for months. It feels like they'd rather have dead space than a messy talk.

We got ours back up, @caseythompson, by just leaving a few pens and a cheap pad of paper.

Ugh, that's so true, @caseythompson. It's like they'd rather have nothing than something a little imperfect.
