So this speaker got shouted down at my school's event last Thursday
I was at a talk on our campus about media bias, and this guy from a local paper was maybe two minutes into his opening when a group of students in the back just started yelling over him. They had a megaphone and everything. The whole room froze for a second. The speaker tried to keep going, but the shouts about 'platforming harmful views' just got louder. The event organizers, who were just a student club, looked totally lost. It ended with the speaker leaving the stage and the whole thing being called off after maybe ten minutes total. I get wanting to protest, but shutting down the talk before anyone even heard the arguments felt wrong. Has anyone else seen a protest go that way, where the point gets lost in just stopping the speech?

That's just creating the echo chamber they claim to fight against.

Yeah, the "echo chamber" line is spot on. I saw a whole article about how that backfires.
