The time my poli sci professor told me to 'just ignore the protestors' and it backfired hard
So last semester at UT Austin, there was this big walkout over the Israel-Palestine thing. My professor, Dr. Henderson, straight up told me in office hours to just put my headphones in and walk through the crowd, said it was the 'adult' thing to do. I tried it. Got surrounded by like 20 people yelling in my face, one kid knocked my coffee out of my hand. Security had to pull me out. Professor acted like I did something wrong. Anyone else get advice from faculty that turned out to be terrible?

Henderson was telling you to take a mature path through a difficult situation, not expecting it to blow up like that.

Henderson gave solid advice. Y'all just can't handle a little confrontation without crumbling.

i actually saw a post on twitter from some UT student the day after that walkout saying the whole thing got way more chaotic than people expected. a friend of mine who goes to UT said the student paper covered it and mentioned like 40 people got pulled out by security, not just you. sounds like henderson was giving out advice from like a 1990s textbook or something, not really getting how tense it is on campus right now. my cousin goes to UCLA and says their professors just tell people to skip class on protest days instead of walking through it. lol that "adult" thing is such boomer logic, like just ignoring real life conflict makes you mature when it actually just makes you a target.
