Warning: Campus security tore down our divestment protest banners yesterday

Our group hung banners calling for fossil fuel divestment on the main quad. Campus police cut them down fast, citing a noise rule from an old event. Why use old rules to stop new climate protests?

Typical. They always reach for the oldest rulebook when they don't like the message. It's a classic move to avoid the actual conversation. They can't argue with the demand for divestment, so they nitpick about permits and noise from three years ago. Using heavier materials is a funny middle finger, but it's sad we have to play these games instead of them just addressing the climate crisis.

My take is heavier materials just make it about the struggle, not the message. @lily57, your friend's case shows they'll always find some rule.

Honestly, my friend Jake had his banners taken down last semester for a dumb technicality too. He tried the heavier duty stuff like @rowan_wells30 mentioned and security definitely struggled more. It just shows they'll use any old rule to avoid the real issue.

Yeah, campus cops did the same to us last semester. We switched to heavier duty materials and they had a harder time removing them lol. Maybe try that next time?
