Hot take: That joke about airplane peanuts was never actually banned
I was reading up on airplane urban legends last night and found out the whole 'peanut joke got you banned for life' thing is basically fake. Apparently one guy in 1999 made a dumb remark about hijacking with peanuts and got removed from a flight, but there's no airline policy that permanently bans you for peanut jokes. It's just one of those stories that spread on forums like this and now everyone thinks it's a real thing. Has anyone else run into a joke or meme that everyone thinks is true but actually isn't?
Oh MAN, this one drives me crazy. I had a customer swear up and down that she got banned from a store for making a joke about their return policy. Took me 20 minutes to prove it was just a story her cousin's friend told her on Facebook. People will believe ANYTHING if it sounds good enough.
Wait wait wait, you're telling me that whole story is just FORUM MYTH? I've been telling people for years about that guy who supposedly got blacklisted for life by Southwest for making a peanut joke. I even brought it up at a party last month and everyone nodded along like it was common knowledge. That's wild that it's basically a creepypasta that escaped and became "real." Makes me wonder how many other "outrageous" stories I've been repeating are just stuff someone made up in 2003 on a message board.
