The time my oven died mid-Thanksgiving dinner prep was a comedy of errors

Last November I was all set to roast the turkey for 12 people when my 15 year old oven just clicked and went cold. The temp never got above 200 degrees even after I waited an hour. I had to call three neighbors before someone let me use their oven at 2 PM. The turkey ended up being an hour late and the gravy was lumpy from rushing. Everyone still ate it and said it was fine but I was fuming inside. Is it wrong to laugh now at how stressed I got over a bird?

Lumpy gravy that looked like concrete" is honestly the kind of story you tell every year now and everyone cracks up.

Oh man, did you at least get to curse at that oven before it died completely? Sounds like it picked the absolute worst time to retire, like a dog that waits until you're on the stairs to throw up. I'd say you earned the right to laugh now, especially since everyone still ate the turkey despite it being late and gravy that looked like concrete. Honestly, the lumpy gravy story is the kind of thing that becomes family legend anyway.
