Warning: My buddy's funeral joke at his dad's wake split the room in half
At the wake in Cleveland two weeks ago my buddy got up and did a bit about his dad hiding cigarettes from his mom for 30 years, and half the room laughed while the other half just stared. His mom laughed the hardest, which I did not see coming, but his aunt left and did not come back. Is it ever okay to do a joke at a funeral if the person who knew the guy best is the one laughing?
Did you ever hear about that study where they looked at how laughter helps people get through grief? I read something a while back that said humor at funerals can actually help folks deal with loss, but it depends on the family. If the mom is laughing, that seems like a green light to me. Some people just don't get the joke and that's on them.
