Defending my neighbor after his joke caused an uproar on our community page

It was a bad joke, not a hate crime. Trying to cancel him for it is going too far and stops real chat. Do you see this happening where you live?

Ugh, totally. The neighborhood Facebook group where I live lost its mind last week over someone saying their Christmas lights were 'aggressively merry'. Like, come on people, it was clearly just a dumb comment. That kind of over-the-top reaction just makes everyone too scared to say anything.

Honestly though, calling lights "aggressively merry" isn't just a dumb comment. It's a real put-down of someone's hard work and holiday spirit. That kind of talk sets a mean tone and makes people feel judged for trying to have fun. If we just laugh it off every time, the group becomes a place where snarky remarks are okay but having actual pride in your decorations isn't. People aren't scared to say anything, they're just tired of their joy being the punchline.

My own Christmas decorations once started a three day argument because I accidentally made Santa look angry. I'm basically a walking neighborhood Facebook incident.

Man, that's too real lol. I saw a near identical fight break out over whether inflatable snowmen were "tacky" or "traditional." People were picking sides like it was some kind of holiday civil war. It's wild how something meant to be fun just turns into a reason to be mad at your neighbors. Gotta laugh at how serious it gets over some plastic Santa faces.
