Had a guy at a diner tell me he got fired for a tweet from 2015
I was eating breakfast at a Denny's in Phoenix last Tuesday and this older guy next to me just starts telling me how he lost his warehouse job because someone found a dumb joke he posted a decade ago. Anyone else ever meet someone who got caught up in something that old?

My buddy got fired from his IT job back in 2019 over a meme he posted in like 2012. It was just a dumb picture of a cat with a silly caption about his boss at the time, nothing mean or hateful. Someone from his old job found it on some random forum and sent it to his new company's HR. They told him it showed "poor judgment" even though he was like 19 when he posted it. He still gets mad about it when we're out drinking. Wild how people dig that stuff up.

Poor judgment" for a cat meme from when he was a teenager? That's brutal. That phrase gets thrown around way too much these days honestly. It reminds me of my cousin who got in trouble at school because someone dug up a dumb tweet he made when he was 14 about a video game. The school called it "inappropriate conduct" and gave him detention. The tweet was literally just him complaining about losing a match in Call of Duty and calling the other player a bad word. It wasn't even directed at anyone at school. Kids say stupid stuff all the time but now it follows them around forever. Your buddy's story just proves how messed up this whole culture of digging through old posts has become. Nobody should lose their job over something harmless they did as a teenager.
