Had a moment where I realized I was the problem in a cancel culture case
Last month I was all in on canceling this local chef for an old tweet. I was commenting on every post, tagging people, the whole thing. Then my buddy who works at the station with me sat me down and showed me the full context of the tweet from 2012. It was a dumb joke about a typo on a menu, not the racist thing everyone was saying. I felt like a total jerk. The chef lost two catering contracts before the truth got out. Has anyone else been part of a pile-on and later found out you were dead wrong?

Last year I helped cancel a baker for a joke that turned out to be about her own mom.

But jokes can still hurt people even when the target is someone you love.

Two catering contracts gone just because people couldn't wait five minutes to look at the full context? That is insane to me. How do you even begin to make that right?
