I saw a post get 10,000 shares for a joke from 2012, and now the comedian is getting hate mail.

But maybe the hate mail is just how people engage now, you know?

Seen it turn into a weird kind of loyalty test. Some creators act like getting hate means they're pushing buttons, so it's a badge of honor. That just makes it worse for everyone else.

Remember that streamer who bragged about a thousand hate comments last week. Treating it like a scoreboard just makes people try to hit that number. It feels less like real pushback and more like a game.

Hugos46 made a good point about it turning into a game. Before that I'd always treated hate mail as just part of the internet noise, something you had to accept. But seeing how some people treat it like a high score really shifted my view. Makes me wonder if the whole thing is just performative now, not actual disagreement.
