I tracked the social media mentions for a comedian who got 'canceled' in 2019 and the numbers are wild

Just saw those numbers and wow, talk about a career boost. Getting "canceled" seems to be the best marketing plan since free samples. That person probably sold more tickets off the outrage than from their actual jokes. Guess the real punchline is how bad we are at actually canceling anyone.

Honestly elliotm57, you're not wrong. Tbh I'd probably get "canceled" for my bad puns and just end up with more dogs to wash. We're terrible at making it stick.

Yeah but elliotm57 is right, we're bad at making it stick. Getting "canceled" just seems to give people more attention now.

Saw a deep dive on this last week. The data showed some podcasters actually triple their downloads after a big controversy. It's like the Streisand effect but for careers. People hate-watch or hate-listen just to see what the fuss is about. That turns into more money from ads and tickets every single time.
