I used to think the whole 'canceling' of that author was fair, but a talk with my friend changed my mind
My friend in Seattle pointed out that the author's old blog post, which got her dropped by her publisher, was from 2009 and she had publicly apologized for it twice. I realized the punishment didn't fit the mistake, especially since her newer work was totally different. It made me question if we're just digging for old dirt instead of letting people grow. Has anyone else seen a case where the backlash seemed stuck in the past?

You ever read that article about how online outrage just feeds on itself? Kinda lines up with what anthony609 said.

My friend got fired over a tweet from 2012, which feels crazy now. It's like aaron sullivan said, the outrage just builds on itself until it's out of control. I wonder if we'll ever learn to just let old stuff go.

Yeah, that's the thing. We act like people can't change over a decade, but we'd all hate to be judged by our old cringey posts. Feels like a gotcha game sometimes.
