Question about whether deleting posts actually counts as canceling someone now
I watched a whole thing unfold last week in a local artists group I joined for freelance work. A muralist in Austin got flagged for old tweets that resurfaced from 2012, and the group admins deleted every single post she had ever made there within 3 hours. No discussion, no vote, just gone like she never existed. The kicker is the tweets were dumb jokes about fast food, not hate speech or anything harmful. She lost two active commissions worth around $1,400 total because clients saw the deletion as an admission of guilt. I ended up messaging her privately to say I thought it was unfair, and she told me she never even got a chance to explain herself. Why do we treat removal from a forum or group as the same punishment as losing your actual job? Has anyone else seen a guild or community handle this badly and regret it later?
