Shoutout to my friend who told me to just apologize fast and move on
I made a dumb joke on a public post last year that got taken the wrong way, and she said to post a clear 'my bad, I see why that was hurtful' within 24 hours. I did, and the whole thing blew over in a couple days instead of becoming a bigger deal. What's the longest you've seen someone wait to address something before it was too late?

Man, that is such a relief when it works out like that. I held off on saying sorry once for like a week because I was so embarrassed, and by then the whole group chat had turned against me. It felt impossible to fix. Your friend's 24-hour rule is honestly the best way to go, it stops the story from getting bigger than the actual mistake.

Oh geez, yeah waiting a week is basically game over at that point. I saw a girl in my class wait like three weeks to address something she said in a group project, and by then everyone had already made up their minds about her. She tried to explain herself but it just came off as defensive and nobody cared anymore. The 24 hour rule is smart because people's memories are short, you gotta catch them while they're still open to hearing you out.

Logan saying he used to think digging in was the move, I feel that. My old strategy was to just double down and act like I meant to be That annoying. It never worked, just made me look like a clown who was also wrong. The 24 hour rule is like putting out a campfire before it burns down the whole forest. Wait a week and you're just apologizing to the ashes.

Honestly, I used to think digging in was the move. But seeing how fast things can spiral online changed my mind. Your friend gave solid advice.
