That time I called out a local influencer for lying about her DIY renovation and got absolutely roasted

So last month a girl I went to high school with posted a video showing her 'totally solo' kitchen flip where she tiled the backsplash and installed new cabinets. Problem is I know for a fact she hired a crew because my buddy was on that job for 3 days. I commented something like 'Hey didn't your brother's crew do this?' and her fans came after me hard. Like 50 replies calling me jealous and a hater and saying I was trying to cancel her just for being successful. I never meant to start a whole thing I just wanted the truth out there. Has anyone else had people twist your honest criticism into some kind of attack on free speech?

Oh man, this is way too familiar. I had almost the exact same thing happen with a girl I knew from college who was doing a whole 'I built this deck myself' series. My neighbor actually rented his truck to her boyfriend and watched him carry all the lumber with two other dudes. I just said 'Nice work, but I heard your boyfriend's crew did the heavy lifting' and her followers called me bitter and said I was trying to tear down a strong woman for sharing her journey. It's wild how people will die on a hill for a complete lie just because the person telling it smiles at the camera. All you wanted was one honest comment and suddenly you're the villain of their little internet drama.

Exactly, and that's the part that gets me every time. It's like the people defending her have already decided what story they want to believe, so any proof to the contrary just makes them dig in harder. They'd rather call you a liar or a jealous hater than admit they got duped by a pretty face and a scripted video. It makes you wonder how many of these "inspirational" accounts are just a total sham that nobody's bothered to fact-check yet.

Wait, did you actually just change my whole view on this? I used to think people who called out fakers were just being haters, but Ross.Lily your story hit different. I remember watching a "home flipper" on instagram who claimed she renovated everything herself, but my buddy who works in construction saw the same contractor trucks there every weekend. It's like people don't want to admit they were fooled so they attack anyone who points out the truth.
