That time my town council tried to cancel a mural of local history

I was at the town hall meeting in Austin 3 months ago when they voted to paint over a 40 year old mural because someone complained it had a Confederate soldier in it. Has anyone else dealt with historical art getting axed by a vocal minority before the full council even saw the complaint?

The Confederate soldier part got me too at first, but I used to think all history should stay up no matter what until I saw how it hurt people.

Yeah exactly, once you actually listen to someone it changes how you see the whole thing.

Funny how that same logic doesn't get applied to everything else. Statues of Columbus and Andrew Jackson still stand all over the place but nobody's forming a committee to cover those up. Feel like we pick and choose which history makes people uncomfortable based on who tweets about it loudest that week.
