The one conversation at a coffee shop that changed how I see callouts

Last month I was at a local coffee shop in Austin, and this older guy noticed my laptop sticker from a podcast I follow. He sat down and started talking about a public figure who got canceled back in 2020 for a joke that was clearly taken out of context. He said "I watched that clip three times and it wasn't even offensive, just clumsy." That stuck with me because I realized we never slow down to check the original source before joining the pile-on. Made me wonder how many people actually watch the full video before they share the screenshot. Has anyone else had a random stranger shift your take on a cancellation?

Yeah the "three times" part is pretty generous, most people can't even watch a 30 second clip once before tweeting.

Hard disagree. Actually taking time to watch something three times shows you care about understanding it, which is way better than the usual knee jerk reactions. Bet @christopherw34 would back me up on that.

The part about watching clips three times really hits home, most people just see a headline.
