The teacher fired for singing at a karaoke bar in Portland
Last month a middle school teacher in Portland, Oregon got canned because someone filmed her belting an R. Kelly song at a karaoke night and posted it with a nasty caption. She wasn't on the clock, no students around, but the district caved to 200 angry comments within 48 hours. I get that the song is problematic, but should a person lose their whole career over a private singalong? Has anyone else watched a local case spiral like this and felt the punishment went way past the offense?

Man, this stuff drives me crazy. A buddy of mine taught high school in Bend and got written up because a parent found his old college Facebook photos from like 2009, just him goofing off at a party, nothing illegal. Took him two years to get his name cleared and he still had to switch schools. People act like teachers stop being human the second they sign a contract. Some random person with a phone can wreck your whole life now and the school just folds instead of backing their own employee. Karaoke at a bar on your own time is about as private as it gets, so yeah, this punishment is way out of line.
