Warning: I lost a $200 freelance gig because of a 5-year-old tweet
A client found an old joke I made about a movie in 2019 and said it was 'problematic' before the project even started. I mean, it was dumb, but it got me dropped instantly with no talk about it. Has anyone else had work pulled over ancient social media posts that had zero to do with the job?

A joke from 2019 got you fired?

Yeah, it's wild how old stuff can come back now. Feels like we're all living with a permanent record online, like that one dumb tweet from high school. Companies dig up years-old posts and act like it's today's news. Makes you wonder if anyone gets to grow up or change their mind anymore without getting in trouble for it later.

How is a joke from five years ago even relevant now? @roberts.leo, it's not about being fired, it's about losing a chance before you start. I saw a guy lose a teaching job over a silly Facebook post from college. People change, but the internet never forgets. It feels like you're being judged for a person you don't even are anymore.
