Wasted $150 on a "cancel proof" online course that got the creator canceled a week later

I signed up for this marketing course from a guy who seemed legit, had like 50k followers. Paid $150 for lifetime access. Then some old tweets resurfaced, he got ratioed into oblivion, and the course got pulled from every platform. Poof, gone. I reached out for a refund, got nothing. So now I'm sitting here thinking, is there any accountability here? The guy made his money before the mob came. Feels like the system rewards bad actors. What do you all think, is that just the risk of buying into influencers or should there be some escrow system for course creators?

@evahenderson sounds like we both paid for the same "how to not get canceled" masterclass except the instructor flunked it first.

Ugh that sucks, I got burned for 200 bucks on a fitness course from a guru who got canceled a month later.

Eva, I get why you're frustrated but honestly I see it a bit different lol. You said "guru who got canceled" which is exactly the risk you take buying from these people. They aren't legit businesses with refund policies, they're just random influencers selling hype. If you paid $150 to some guy on the internet who turned out to be a dirtbag, that's on you for trusting him without doing more digging first. The system isn't rewarding bad actors, it's just showing that buying from internet personalities is a gamble. I don't think an escrow system would fix anything either, people would still find ways to scam. At the end of the day you paid for marketing advice from someone who couldn't even market his own reputation properly, so maybe take it as a cheap lesson and move on.
