I finally figured out how to save a dying show and it was stupid simple, just watch it live
So here is the trick that actually worked. I got tired of watching shows I love get the axe after one season while stuff I hate runs for 8 seasons. Someone on a sub told me Nielsen still counts live same day viewers way more than streams for some networks. So I started DVRing nothing and just watching my shows the night they air, no skipping ads. Did it for one full season of a show that was on the bubble at a smaller network. It got renewed. My roommate did the same thing with a different show on a different network and that one got canned anyway. So it is not magic. But here is the thing, the live plus same day numbers were up 14 percent for my show that season according to the ratings sites. Could be a fluke. Could be other people did the same thing. I am not saying cancel culture or fan campaigns do nothing. But if you want a show back, maybe start by actually watching it when it airs instead of waiting 6 weeks and binging it. Has anyone else tried this and seen it work, or am I just fooling myself here?
