Fired from a Boise bike shop 3 years ago over a Facebook post, and I finally talked to the owner last Friday
Three years ago I was a mechanic at a small bike shop in Boise and I posted something dumb on Facebook after a long day. The post was about a customer who kept asking me to fix a bike he clearly bought online, and I called the brand "overpriced junk" without naming anyone. Someone screenshotted it, it made the rounds in a local cycling group, and the owner let me go within 48 hours. I lost about $2,100 a month and it took me 5 months to find another job. Last Friday I ran into the owner at a coffee shop on Vista Ave and we actually talked for 20 minutes. He admitted the call came from a sponsor, not from him. I know how I feel about it, but was 48 hours too fast to fire someone over a screenshot? Curious what you all think.
