My old boss in Cincinnati called me after 8 months of no contact and said something that flipped how I see all this
Background: I got let go from a marketing job over a tweet that got screencapped out of context, and 3 people I thought were friends never spoke to me again. Last Tuesday my former boss Dana called out of nowhere, not to apologize, just to ask if I'd freelance a project, and she said the team still quotes my campaign ideas in meetings. That hit different because I'd been telling myself for months that the shunning meant my work never mattered, and here's the one person who actually ran the place saying it did. Has anyone else had a former coworker reach out like that after the dust settled, and did it help or just stir stuff back up?
I totally used to roll my eyes at the idea that work friends are real friends, like nah they just have to be nice to you because you share a break room. Then a guy I hadn't talked to in two years messaged me out of nowhere just to say a thing I built was still running and he thought about it a lot. I sat there for like an hour not knowing what to do with my face. It did not fix everything and it did stir up some old crap, but it also showed me that losing a few people did not erase what I made. The quiet ones who never said anything are loud too, just in the other direction.
