Hot take: canned tuna quality stats are making me doubt my whole pantry
I read a USDA report last month that said almost 40% of canned tuna samples had sodium levels 25% higher than the label claims. That shocked me since I use two cans a week for lunches. Do you trust the nutrition facts on your cans or just assume they're off? I'm leaning toward rinsing everything now but that kills the flavor.
My buddy Jake had this same crisis last year. He's a bodybuilder so he eats tuna like it's his job, and he got so paranoid about sodium he started rinsing every single can in a colander for like five minutes. Swore he could taste the difference, said it was like eating wet cardboard. Then he brought his "rinsed tuna salad" to a cookout and his own sister asked him if he was okay because it looked and smelled so sad. He quit rinsing after that and just started buying the low sodium kind instead, which honestly tastes fine. Point is, you're probably right to doubt the labels, but rinsing your lunch into oblivion isn't the answer either.
