Spent $12 on canned smoked trout and it changed my lunch game

I finally caved and bought a tin of smoked trout from the fancy section at the grocery store. It was like $12 which felt crazy for one can, but I mixed it with some canned cream of mushroom soup and poured it over instant rice. Made three meals out of it and it actually tasted like something you'd order at a cafe. Definitely gonna keep one of those tins in the pantry for when I need a real pick me up without going to the store. Has anyone tried other canned fish that work well in creamy soups?

Start by giving that smoked trout some respect - it's doing double duty as a fancy lunch AND an emergency pantry hero. I snagged a tin of smoked kippers once on a whim and dumped them into some boxed mac and cheese with a handful of frozen peas. Turned my sad dorm room dinner into something that almost felt gourmet, even if my roommate swore the apartment smelled like a fishing boat for two days.

Haha $12 for a can of fish feels like a total splurge until you realize you just made three fancy cafe meals out of it. I did the same thing with a tin of smoked mussels once and mixed them into a can of tomato soup with some spinach - it was weirdly good but my kitchen smelled like low tide for a day. Definitely worth keeping one of those tins around for emergency fancy dinners though.

Three dollars a serving for cafe quality food is a steal any way you look at it. I keep a tin of Spanish sardines in the work truck for those late nights when the diner is closed and I need something better than a gas station sandwich.
