Warning: That 'gourmet' canned soup brand cost me $8 a can and tasted exactly like the $1 store brand
I bought 4 cans of some fancy organic tomato bisque from a specialty market downtown and after one spoonful I realized I could have saved $28 and gotten the same flavor from the regular canned tomato soup I already had in my pantry, anyone else fallen for the fancy label trap?

Save the fancy cans for gifts and stick to what you already know works.

Ask @nguyen.morgan what counts as a "fancy can" to them though.

Well I'll be. I used to think there was a real difference between the store brand and the premium stuff. I'd buy the fancy cans for things like chili or split pea soup thinking the extra money got me better ingredients. But last winter I did my own taste test with three different brands of tomato soup including one that cost close to $10 a can. Could not tell them apart in a blind test. My wife had to pour me a fourth bowl so I could finally admit I was wrong. Now I just grab whatever is on sale and call it a day.
