A client in Phoenix told me my portfolio looked like I was trying too hard, and it clicked.
He said, 'I don't hire a list of skills, I hire the person who solved a problem for a bakery last year,' which made me scrap my fancy template and just tell three simple stories about specific projects instead.

Honestly had the same thing happen with my old resume. Kept getting told I sounded too stiff and corporate. Tbh I just wrote down three times I actually helped someone at my last job, like walking a panicked customer through a refund. Got way more calls after that. It feels weird to just talk like a normal person instead of listing buzzwords. That client in Phoenix was totally onto something.

Yeah I saw a blog post about this, how recruiters spend like six seconds on a resume. They're not reading paragraphs, they're looking for proof you can do the job. The post said to just pick your top three wins and write them like you're telling a friend what happened.
