I got told my project updates were too long and it changed how I write emails
My manager pulled me aside after a meeting and said, 'I need the headline, not the whole story.' She told me my weekly email updates were over 800 words and she was skipping them. I cut them down to three bullet points max, each one line, and only mention blockers or big wins. Now I send them every Friday and get replies within an hour. Has anyone else had to totally change how they communicate at work?

Yeah, that's a super common adjustment... I had to learn the same thing early on. My old boss just wanted the bottom line, like if I needed a decision from him or if something was on fire. The long version with all the steps just made his eyes glaze over. Now I pretend I'm writing a text, not a report. It feels weird at first, cutting out all the work you did, but it gets the job done.

Did your boss ever give you feedback on the short version?
