I took a pay cut to leave a bad boss and it was the right call

I was stuck for a year at a sales job in Phoenix with a manager who yelled at us over small mistakes. I got an offer from a smaller company for 15% less money but a way better team vibe. I took the new job three months ago and my stress is gone, even with the smaller paycheck. Has anyone else picked a good environment over more cash and how did it work out long term?

Honestly, a 15% pay cut for "stress is gone" sounds like a pretty big deal to me.

Ngl, I took a pay cut like that a few years back and it was the best move ever. My old check was bigger but I was just blowing that extra cash trying to unwind from the daily mess. The math really does work out when you stop needing to buy your own peace of mind back every weekend.

Totally get that, it's a trade-off for sure. AaronSullivan has a point about the hidden costs of a bad job (like the money you spend just to feel okay after work). It's wild how we accept that as normal until we step back.

But what if that 15% is just the money you were spending to cope with the old job? Like, you probably don't need those after-work drinks or stress shopping anymore. The real math is your take-home peace, not just the smaller number on the paycheck.
