When I was a teller in Dallas my branch manager pulled me aside and told me to volunteer for anything that came up, even the stuff nobody wanted. I took the check scanning work and the Saturday audit help and thought I was just being a sucker. Fast forward 2 years and I got promoted twice while the folks who said no stayed put, mostly because I knew how the whole branch ran. But it also meant I covered 14 Saturdays in a row last spring and missed my cousin's wedding. Curious if anyone else had a boss who pushed the extra work thing and whether it paid off or just burned you out.
