Overheard my boss say 'just fake it til you make it' to a new hire yesterday

I was grabbing coffee and heard my manager tell this kid straight up to bluff his way through client meetings. The guy has been here maybe two weeks and knows nothing about our database systems. I had to step in later and show him the actual training docs we have. Has anyone else worked at a place where management encourages winging it instead of proper training?

Does "faking it" include faking security protocols? Because at my last place they told a new guy to just "figure out" the database access, and six months later the entire customer list leaked because nobody showed him how the permissions actually worked. The boss had to sit through a two hour audit explaining why a temp hire had full admin access. That's where the "fake it til you make it" culture leads - someone ends up making a mess that costs real money to clean up.
