Pro tip: My mentor in Chicago said 'your network is your net worth' and it finally clicked.

He explained it's not about collecting contacts, it's about helping people without expecting anything back. Anyone else have a simple phrase that changed how you work?

Honestly, that's a great phrase but I feel like it misses the expectation part. My old boss used to say "your network is your safety net." It's less about worth and more about having people who will actually answer your call when you need real help, not just favors. That shift made me focus on way fewer, but deeper connections.

Totally get what you mean. I've been trying to do that too, like really checking in on a couple friends just to see how they're doing, not because I need something. It makes the whole thing feel less like a transaction, you know?
