Showerthought: I was sure the 'dress for the job you want' advice was just corporate fluff.

My boss in Seattle told me to wear a blazer for a client pitch, and I got the project over a more experienced team. It made me see that how you present yourself can actually change how people judge your skills. Has anyone else had a small change in their work clothes make a big difference?

But isn't it just playing a part for them?

Consider how the performance itself can change who they are inside.

Wait, you got the project just from wearing a blazer? That's wild. I always figured that advice was kind of made up too, but maybe it really does work like that. It's not just playing a part like @taraross said, it sounds like it actually changed how the client saw you right away. I guess people really do make snap judgments based on looks, even if it's not fair. Makes me want to rethink my own hoodie-at-work situation.
