Tried a new way to ask for a raise and it actually worked
I read a tip to bring a one-page report of my work wins to my review at my job in Denver. I listed three big projects I led and the money they saved, like the new filing system that cut supply costs by 15%. My boss said he'd never seen that before and approved the raise on the spot. Has anyone else tried something like this, or did I just get lucky?

That's a solid move, bringing the hard numbers to the table. Totally agree with @murphy.tessa about linking daily stuff to the bigger picture. It makes your case way stronger than just saying you work hard. Seems like you made it impossible for them to say no.

Not just lucky, that's how you do it. Bosses love seeing numbers.

Ever wonder what happens when the numbers go the other way though. Like if you tie your work to a metric that starts dropping through no real fault of your own. Does that proof of work then turn into a mark against you. Feels like a double edged sword sometimes.

Yeah, bosses do love numbers, @annajenkins. The trick is to tie your daily tasks to those numbers so it's clear you're making an impact. It turns busy work into proof you're getting things done.
