Unpopular opinion: I turned down the $52k job with the fancy title for the $44k one and I think I got it right
Two offers landed the same week back in March, one was an assistant manager spot at a call center paying $52k, the other was a plain data entry role at a small insurance office for $44k. I picked the lower one because the manager at the call center bragged about how fast people burn out there, and that felt like a warning. Six weeks in, my boss at the insurance office showed me how to pull claims reports and now I'm training on their billing system, which is actual stuff I can put on a resume. The $8k difference stings every payday, not gonna lie. Anyone else ever take less money on purpose and have it work out, or did I just get lucky with this office?
Read a thread on a career forum where a bunch of people said the title bump is usually the worst trade you can make early on, since a fancy title with no skills behind it just makes your next interview awkward. Sounds like you dodged that trap. The $8k is real money, sure, but six weeks in and you're already learning reports and billing, that adds up faster than a title ever will. Give it a year and see where the pay lands once you have stuff to show for it.
