A client told me my miter joints looked 'sloppy' and it stung, but they were right.
I was rushing the cuts on a picture frame job and not checking my saw for square often enough. Anyone else get a piece of criticism that actually improved your work?

Oh man, that's the worst kind of good advice. Had a guy tell me my paint prep was lazy, showed me the dust nibs in my clear coat. I wanted to argue but he was totally right, I was skipping the tack cloth step. Now I'm a tack cloth fanatic. That sting makes the lesson stick.

Used to think tack cloths were a waste of time until I saw my own work under a bright light. Those tiny specs in the finish were a real eye opener. Now I never skip that step.

My buddy uses a spray bottle with water and a drop of dish soap as a tack cloth backup. Just a light mist over the panel before clear coat catches what the cloth misses.
