Just realized my trust in pocket screws for that built-in bench was a mistake
After three years, the 8-foot bench in a client's sunroom started to wobble because I relied solely on pocket screws for the long grain joints instead of adding proper mortise and tenons.

My buddy's deck chair collapsed from the same pocket screw mistake.

Pocket screws in a deck chair sounds like a bad idea from the start. That's asking for a sudden trip to the ground. Your buddy learned the hard way that some shortcuts just don't work. It's a good lesson for anyone trying to build or fix something. Always use the right hardware for the job, or you'll end up with a pile of broken wood.

Glue just means you fall down with the broken chair still attached to you.

Did he at least try to glue the joint first? That extra step can save you from a nasty surprise...
