That crown molding corner took me 3 hours, should have been 20 minutes
I was fitting crown molding in a bedroom in Austin last week and the inside corner just would not close up. I measured twice, cut once, still got a gap. My miter saw was set to the angle I use on every job, but this wall was slightly out of square, like 2 degrees off. I ended up scribing the piece by hand and shaving it down with a block plane. Took three hours total for one corner that should have taken 20 minutes. Has anyone else hit a wall that's just jacked enough to make you question your whole setup, or do I need to start checking square on every damn run before I cut?

Man, I feel your pain. I had the same thing happen in a hallway where the wall was off by like 3 degrees and I kept chasing my tail with the miter saw. I finally gave up and cut a scrap piece to test the angle first, then used that to set my saw. Also started using a cheap digital angle finder on every inside corner now, takes like 10 seconds and saves me from those 3 hour disasters. The scribing trick is solid though, I just do that way earlier now instead of fighting the saw for an hour first.
