That stat about 70% of deck failures being at the ledger board really caught me off guard
I was reading through the IRC code book last week and saw that number. Made me double check every deck I built in the last 3 years - anyone else been lazy about those flashing details?

Holy cow, 70% is way higher than I would have guessed for that.

You bet I've been there. That number comes straight from the building code folks who actually inspect the failures. Quick tip: use hot-dipped galvanized nails or structural screws at the ledger, not those cheap coated screws. That one swap alone probably saves most of those 70% of decks.
