The choice between a new miter saw and fixing my old one for a big trim job

Last month I had a whole house trim package to do, and my old 10-inch saw was acting up. I could either drop about $600 on a new 12-inch sliding saw, or spend maybe $150 and a weekend rebuilding the motor on my old one. I went with the fix, using a kit I found online, and got it running smooth again. It handled the job fine, but I did miss having the extra cut capacity a few times. Anyone else ever stick with an old tool and sort of regret not just upgrading?

Ugh, I know that feeling. Fixed up my old drill press last year and saved cash, but man I wish I had just bought the newer model with the laser guide lol.

That laser guide sounds cool, but honestly I get more pride from fixing the old one myself (even if it's a bit more work).

Read an article about how those laser guides are never really lined up right from the factory anyway. You end up tweaking it constantly, so maybe you saved yourself some extra hassle. The old iron is usually more solid too, just lacks the fancy bits. Kind of a trade-off either way.
