Yeah, "it just lasts" is the key. Read a whole article about how the glue spreads the weight and stops seams from lifting in high traffic areas. Makes sense.

Oh man, that reminds me of my friend's old playroom. They had that foam puzzle mat stuff over real hardwood. After like two years of kids and dogs, the mats were totally shredded, pieces everywhere. But when they finally pulled it all up, the floor underneath was basically perfect, just needed a quick clean. I mean, maybe the real lesson is just having a good base layer, idk.

Totally get what @wade250 is saying about a good base layer. My buddy had carpet tiles over plywood in his basement, and after a flood, the tiles were ruined but the plywood just dried out and was fine. So investing in a decent subfloor pays off when stuff goes wrong, lol.
