I called bull on the 6 inch stretch rule for 12 years, then a Berber job in Tulsa set me straight
For as long as I've been laying carpet I figured power stretching past 3 inches was just something the old timers said to sound smart. Last Tuesday I was doing 80 yards of a tight loop Berber in a Tulsa rental and the homeowner walked in while I was finishing the last bedroom. She pointed at a ripple near the door and said her dad installed carpet for 30 years and he'd fire me for that. I laughed it off but came back Thursday with a rented power stretcher and a stretcher head I'd never bothered to use right. Pulled that room from three walls at once and the ripple vanished, plus the seam I was worried about disappeared too. Went home and read my old install book cover to cover, guess I was just too proud to try it sooner. Anybody else switch up how they stretch after a customer calls them out?
