That old installer told me to skip the padding seams...
He said just butt them tight and tape over the top, but I had three callbacks in one month from ridges showing through. Now I always glue and tape every seam on the padding before laying carpet, has anyone else run into this?

Three callbacks is three too many. Glue and tape is the only way that lasts.

Callbacks actually fix the problem right, no duct tape needed.

Are you saying nested callbacks aren't a step back from synchronous code?
