Took me 6 hours to figure out why a Berber seam kept showing, and it was one dumb thing
Last Tuesday I was doing a 40 yard Berber job in a house out in Fairview and the seam down the hallway kept peeking through no matter what I did. I re-tacked it twice, re-rolled it, even swapped out my seaming iron thinking the thermostat was off. Turned out the nap on one side was running opposite to the other because I laid the second piece backward off the roll. Once I flipped that piece and re-cut the edge, the seam disappeared in about 10 minutes. I lost half a day over a direction I should have checked before I ever made the first cut. Any of you mark your nap direction with chalk on every piece before you lay it, or do you just eyeball it like I did?
Been there man, spent 4 hours once chasing a shadow on a stair landing only to realize I had the pile running into the light on one side. Every piece gets a chalk arrow now before it comes off the truck, no exceptions. I even mark the roll before I cut so I cannot talk myself out of it later. Cheap insurance compared to losing a whole afternoon. You are not the only one who eyeballed it and paid for it.
