Warning: Don't use cheap release paper on seaming tape like I did

I bought a bulk roll of release paper from a discount supplier in Omaha and thought I was saving big. The paper tore apart when I tried to pull it off the tape, stuck to everything, and I had to re-do a 40 foot seam in a living room. Learned the hard way that quality release paper is worth the extra $12 per roll. Anyone else have a bad experience with cheap materials messing up a job?

claire_grant34, I get the urge to throw it into the street. Something about cheap materials failing just feels personal. It's like buying the store brand garbage bags that rip when you look at them funny. You end up spending more time cleaning up than you saved on the bag. Same with cheap paint brushes that shed bristles into your paint. The $12 you save is never worth the headache.

Oh man, 40 feet of living room seam? That's brutal. I'd have thrown the whole roll into the street after that.

Hang on, I gotta push back on that. Throwing the whole roll into the street is way over the top. That seam is a pro install requirement, not a personal attack. You pay a good installer to do that because they know how to hide it with proper prep and the right tape. A 40 foot seam in a living room is totally normal, especially if the room is wide open. It's not like the carpet is going to fall apart because of one seam. You can't always avoid it with the layout.
