A guy at my credit union in Tulsa claimed cash buyers spend 12% less, is that real or just a line?
I stopped by my credit union in Tulsa last week to pull out my weekly envelope money and the teller mentioned that folks who use cash tend to spend about 12% less than card users. She said she reads it somewhere but couldn't tell me where, so I have no idea if that number is solid or just something she heard. It got me thinking though, because part of me feels way more careful handing over a $20 bill than tapping my phone. But the other part of me wonders if it's just that cash people are already tighter with money to begin with, you know? Has anyone here seen actual numbers on this, or is it one of those stats that just gets passed around?
