My bank charged me $35 for a $6 sandwich last Tuesday and that was the day I quit cards for good
Three years ago I was the guy tapping my phone for everything, didn't even know where my wallet was half the time. Then last Tuesday I grabbed lunch at a deli on 5th Street, paid with my card, and the next morning there was a $35 overdraft fee sitting in my account because a bill I forgot about went through first. I called the bank and the lady basically told me it was my job to check my balance, which, fair, but $35 for a $6 sandwich still feels like robbery. That day I pulled $400 out, and I have not swiped a card since. My grocery runs got tighter, I eat out less, but I know down to the dollar what I have left in my pocket at all times. Does anyone else feel like the fees were the real reason they bailed on cards, or was it something else that pushed you over?
