Got hit with a 5% card fee at a food truck festival in Austin
Last weekend I went to a food truck festival in Austin and every single vendor had a sign saying cash is preferred or you pay an extra 5% for card. One taco guy told me his square reader eats into his profit so bad he has to price everything higher just to break even on card sales. I get that cashless is convenient, but places are pushing the fees onto customers and that's not really a choice. Meanwhile the ATM right by the entrance charged $4.50 to pull out $40, so I lost either way. If digital money is going to take over, who's supposed to eat these transaction costs? Has anyone else noticed fees popping up like this at small vendors or markets near them?
