I was dead set against digital wallets until my wallet got stolen at the bus station in Portland last Tuesday.
Lost $60 cash plus my ID, but my bank app had me locked out of my own money within 10 minutes while the thief probably spent my cash before I even noticed it was gone, so has anyone else had a close call like that change your mind about carrying paper?

And that's the thing, right? I was the idiot who didn't even have my phone charged enough to open the app, so I was just standing there like a dope with a dead battery while the bank was all "sorry, we're protecting you." I guess I looked real smart fumbling for my phone and then realizing I couldn't even call anyone because, oh yeah, no ID. At least digital wallets are just on your phone and you don't have to worry about some guy grabbing your actual wallet off the bus seat. I swear I'm the only person who got robbed and still ended up thinking, "well, at least the technology works.

Honestly, the same thing happened to me last year and I felt exactly like that. I was at a diner after paying with my card, walked out, and realized my wallet was gone within like five minutes. The bank was almost too good at locking me out, I couldn't even check how much they took before it froze. It was just thirty bucks and my license gone, but yeah, the tech side of it is weirdly impressive. Ngl, having a dead phone in that moment is the worst, but at least it means the system worked for once. I'd take that over some guy running off with my whole life in a leather flap any day.

I remember losing my debit card at a gas station once and it took me like an hour on hold just to cancel it. The thief probably bought a couple burritos and a bus pass with your cash before you even hit the parking lot. So yeah, that digital wallet idea is sounding a lot smarter now, huh?
